A Lenny’s Podcast episode on what makes a good PM
Why a Lenny’s Podcast conversation about product management
A lot of this conversation resonated with where I am as a product manager right now. Good PMs stay relentlessly curious, admit what they don’t know, and keep digging until they understand the problem well enough to form an opinion.
The craft is ultimately learned by doing the work, making mistakes, and getting closer to customers. I also liked the reminder to separate the business problem from the customer problem. I can tell that I usually focus hard on the business problem, which might blind me to things happening on the customer side. The distinction between mentors who give advice and sponsors who actively advocate for you also stuck with me.
