Reading Marty Cagan's Transformed
Cagan's new book on the product operating model, read from inside
Marty Cagan's new book Transformed came out this month, and I picked it up right away. His earlier writing shaped a lot of how I think about product teams, and this one is about something closer to my daily reality: moving a company to the product operating model when it didn't start as a product company.
That's most of my job. I work at a solar company. Product thinking isn't the default here, and every bit of it has to earn its place against how the business already runs. Reading a book aimed at exactly that situation feels different from reading advice written for tech companies and translating it on the fly.
The early chapters put words to something I've felt for a while: the hard part was never the backlog or the process. It's how decisions get made, and who gets trusted to make them.
